Roman Green Chalcedony Intaglio of Dancing Satyr set as a ring, Roman Imperial Period, ca. 1st - 3rd century CE Jewelry - Varia wearing bootsA striking Roman intaglio in luminous green chalcedony depicting a youthful satyr in motion, nude save for a short cloak draped over one shoulder, his left leg raised in a lively dance. In his outstretched hand he presents a theatrical mask, in the other, he holds a curved pedum (shepherds crook), one of the defining attributes of the satyr. The composition captures the energy and grace of Dionysian revelry, a spirited follower of the wine god caught
